About

Katie Reines, MS, RD.

As a teenager, I valued myself almost exclusively depending on my weight and pant size, which lead me down a toxic obsession with body image, ‘healthy’ food, and fitness. My journey of healing my relationship with myself, and with food, was not easy. If only my younger self had a dietitian that I could relate to and trust! This is why I feel so fulfilled helping young women to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

As I practiced shifting my focus to more empowering beliefs, I continued to get excited about helping peoples health, and the health of our planet, through self love practices, plant based nutrition education, and an overall holistic approach. I intend to help shift the world from one that feeds on doubt, fear, and insecurity, to one that feeds on excitement, empowerment, and peace.

I enjoy consulting clients as a certified registered dietitian, plant based chef, and food freedom and body image coach, with my private practice, catering SHIFT transformational healing retreats, and helping patients and presenting webinars with Dr. Valter Longo’s Create Cures Foundation in Santa Monica, CA.

Looking back, in 2008, I began connecting my weight with my self worth and I lost my menstrual cycle for over 8 years. January 1, 2011 I pledged to go vegan for 21 days for ethical and health reasons and while I stuck with it for the most part ever since, it wasn’t until 2021 that I finally went an entire year getting my menstrual cycle healthily every single month.

When I pledged to go vegan in 2011, I began to obsess about clean foods in an unhealthy way. It also didn’t help that I became a flier on the varsity cheerleading team, and I was trying to be as light and as lean as possible.

As my journey continued, it wasn’t until a few years later that plant based nutrition actually helped to heal my disordered eating by providing me reasons to choose certain foods besides to try to look a certain way. My perspective on veganism and plant based eating is that it is the most compassionate approach, and that includes with myself.

Compassion does not stop with compassion for the animals or the environment. If I find myself being mean to myself, hating myself for eating something ‘bad’ or straying from veganism, well than that is not very vegan of me is it! I love helping my clients find a perspective and belief about their eating choices that feels exciting and empowering for them for the long term.

In June 2017, I had the opportunity to work as a registered dietitian at Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Health Oasis in Boca Raton, FL under Dr. Laurie Marbas.  It was a dream come true to get to lead food demos, presentations, grocery store tours, and to help patients one-on-one with their meal planning and health indicators.

When I was in high school, I didn't think it was possible to be fit and strong with a plant based diet because doctors and dietitians kept telling me I needed to eat more and exercise less if I wanted a regular period and to be hormonally healthy.

I was very insecure and stressed throughout college and discovered that it is possible to enjoy a healthy balanced plant based diet and be fit and strong, while maintaining hormonal health.  I really had to shift my focus from stressful thoughts to grateful thoughts to heal, which is why my programs and content have such a strong mindset component.

Balance is essential. Of course my clients learn about optimal nutrition and all the fun nerdy things there are to know about necessary supplements, food groups, and optimizing cooking methods.

However, my clients also learn the benefits of community, eating a damn cookie, learning how and when to rest and take a break, and make sure that their lifestyle is empowering and sustainable for them.

I can now say with confidence, after over 8 years of struggling with restricting, binging, being obsessed with my weight, body image, and clean eating, and from being too skinny, to overweight with pre-diabetes, I now feel more sustainably healthy and confident in my skin than ever before, and I aim to help others feel the same.
